JetBlue pilot removed from cockpit

JetBlue pilot James Clifton was “removed from his duties” after he failed a breathalyzer test, the airline said in a statement to CBS News.

As reported by the outlet, the pilot was passing through security at the Buffalo airport when a TSA agent noticed he “may have been impaired,” the statement continued.

Mr Clifton’s blood alcohol test was 0.17, which is four times the legal limit of 0.4, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. This is twice the legal limit for driving in the US.  

The plane was scheduled to take off at 6.15am from the Buffalo Niagara International airport and was delayed by greater than 4 hours.

According to a police report obtained by ABC7 Chicago, Mr Clifton mentioned he didn’t drink within the morning however admitted to having “seven to eight drinks the night before”.

The report mentioned he had spent the evening consuming on the bar of a lodge the place different crew members had been staying.

According to the flight’s different pilot, Mr Clifton missed his crew bus within the morning and ended up getting an Uber, the police report added.

Mr Clifton was taken into custody and launched into JetBlue safety.

Statement from JetBlue and FAA
